Lil Wayne became the latest rapper to align himself with Donald Trump’s re-election campaign this week.
On Thursday, the rapper posted a photo with the president following a meeting about prison reform and the Platinum Plan, which promises to increase access to capital in Black communities by almost $500 billion over the next four years.
“Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership,” Wayne wrote in his tweet, which was reposted by the president. “He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.”

According to Trump, the meeting came at the request of Wayne. “He wanted a meeting. He’s a really nice guy,” the president told reporters.
He also applauded the Young Money rapper for his activism. “He’s really an activist in a very positive way,” he added. “And he asked for a meeting and we had the meeting and as you saw, the meeting went very well.”
The photo went viral on social media, sparking backlash from Wayne’s followers and his peers including 50 Cent, who shared his surprised reaction. “Oh no 👀 WAYNE🤦♂️, I WOULD HAVE NEVER TOOK THIS PICTURE,” said 50, who renounced Trump after previously endorsing him.
Others including Charlamagne Tha God criticized Wayne’s photo op and apparent endorsement, calling it a distraction. “Trust me when I tell you, Black people are not on the Trump administration’s agenda, nor will we ever be. All of our civil liberties are at risk,” he said on “The Breakfast Club.”
