Kanye West Wants ‘DONDA 2’ Played at ‘Births, Graduations, Weddings, and Funerals’

Kanye West wants DONDA 2 to be the soundtrack to life.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, rapper-producer Digital Nas revealed that Ye has very specific instructions when it comes to his sequel album.
“These are the directives for the album: ‘If it cannot be played at a funeral, childbirth, graduation, a wedding, it will not be on our record,’” said Nas, who produced “Junya” and “Remote Control” on DONDA. “We learned a lot from DONDA 1. We learned what hit. We learned what was sticking. So we took from there. It has to be able to be played at four major moments in people’s lives. That’s crazy, right?”
Nas is particularly excited for one track he recorded with the album’s executive producer, Future. “That’s just phenomenal,” he shared.
According to Nas, Ye has been collaborating with some of the producers who worked on 2013’s Yeezus, as well as producers from the original DONDA. He also hit the studio with Travis Scott. “[He] pulled up and played beats for Ye,” said Nas.
Digital Nas has also been working on his own album, DN3, due Feb. 4. However, he admits that he’s been having trouble holding onto beats. If Ye likes a track, he wants it for DONDA 2.
“He doesn’t take it well when you say no,” said Nas. “You got to give him a reason why.”
DONDA 2 is slated to arrive Feb. 22. It’s unclear what will make the album, but Ye has been spotted in the studio with collaborators including Big Sean, The Game, Pusha T, Fivio Foreign, Moneybagg Yo, and A$AP Rocky.
