Gerald Wayne Williams, 34, was arrested after turning himself into authorities following a shooting resulting in the death of 17-year-old David Castro on July 6th.
The Father of David told authorities that he was driving his two sons to a baseball game when his son was shot in their pickup truck. David succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Williams was charged with the killing of David on July 28th after surveillance footage, community tips, and interviews from witnesses pointed in the suspect’s direction.
Paul Castro told police that he had a verbal encounter with the driver of the white Buick following the baseball game in the downtown area. The criminal complaint reads that Castro was followed and then his truck was shot at, one of the bullets hitting his son.
“There are no words in the English language, nor should there be, to describe the pain that we’re going through right now,” Castro stated in a news conference. “I think today just proves that love is greater than anger and hate. And so, as a proud Houstonian, I want to just acknowledge the amazing work of the people who are here to protect us from bad people,”
Houston police chief Troy Finner states, “We will not stand by and allow people to brutally murder and harm our citizens and do nothing about it.”
