The former first lady turned every head at Wednesday’s inauguration in a tastefully colorblocked head-to-toe plum and burgundy ensemble by LA-based Sergio Hudson. True to her style of class and debonair, Michelle Obama’s outfit included a turtleneck sweater and wide-legged bootcut pants, with a structured coat teetering on the lines of quiet elegance for power women 101.
Hudson, the South Carolina fashion designer dressed also V.P. Kamala Harris but it was that eggplant color combo he dressed former First Lady Michelle Obama in that has the ladies gagging. Hudson, who has been featured in Vogue magazine and was the winner of the Bravo TV series “Styled to Rock,” has also designed for Tracee Ellis Ross, Beyoncé, J.Lo, and many more.
The now infamous inauguration look was completed with a black face mask and one of Hudson’s signature handmade leather belts, fastened with a circular brushed brass buckle.
The power couple almost broke the internet when the door opened to reveal the Obama’s featuring Michelle’s chic suit and bouncy drop curls. This isn’t the first time Obama has worn Hudson and supported his brand. At 2019’s Essence Festival in New Orleans, she appeared in a sparkling jumpsuit with one of his signature belts — this time in navy. He posted a picture of her wearing a custom purple pantsuit by the designer, which she had worn on her Becoming book tour, alongside a caption describing her as “my forever FLOTUS.”
“Thank you for supporting the brand and doing it so fabulously!”
Seemingly humble and grateful to share his work with the world, Hudson posted this about his belts which are sure to be a hot-seller this spring.
Belts, Belts, BELTS! EVERYWHERE!!! I was brought to tears when I saw my name engraved in these buckles. I know it’s a small thing, but being a designer has been a dream for as long as I can remember. I realized today looking at these buckles I’m living the beginning stages of that dream.😢
Congratulations Sergio Hudson, dreams really do come true!
