Nike Delays Travis Scott Sneaker After Astroworld Tragedy

[ad_1]

Nike is postponing the launch of its latest Travis Scott collaboration.

The Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack sneaker was initially set to drop on Nike’s SNKRS app on Dec. 16. In a statement, the brand announced that it has been delayed in the wake of the Astroworld tragedy.

“Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack,” Nike said in a message posted on its website.

Travis’ relationship with Nike started in 2017 with the release of his first Air Force 1 design. Throughout the years, they have collaborated on popular releases including the Air Jordan 33, Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 6, and the SB Dunk.

Last week, an emote featuring Travis’ song “Out West” was removed from the Fortnite item shop, according to Eurogamer.

The news comes after Astroworld claimed its 10th victim, Ezra Blount, a 9-year-old boy who died from his injuries after being trampled at the Houston festival on Nov. 5. Hundreds more were injured following a crowd surge during Travis’ set.

More than 100 lawsuits have reportedly been filed against Travis and concert organizers.

Following the tragedy, Travis spoke out and pledged to cover the funeral costs for the victims’ families. “I’m honestly just devastated and I could never imagine anything like this happening,” he said.
