Freddie Gibbs wants smoke with Kendrick Lamar.
On Saturday, the Grammy-nominated MC dropped a freestyle to Drake’s “Champagne Poetry” called “Vice Lord Poetry” on which he appears to take shots at the Compton rapper while flexing his lyrical prowess.
“The earth ain’t big enough for both of us, you gotta get done,” Gibbs raps over the Certified Lover Boy instrumental. “They say they smokin’ top 5s, but you ain’t burnt up the one / F**k ni**as talkin’ ’bout? / Like every time I hit the booth, I don’t leave that bitch with a body count.”
The “smokin’ top 5s” lyrics are a response to Kendrick’s verse on his Baby Keem collaboration “family ties,” where he raps, “Smokin’ on yo’ top five tonight.”
Elsewhere on his vicious freestyle, Gibbs declares Alfredo, his collaborative album with The Alchemist, the “album of the year.” “I had the album of the year / Bitch, you could ask Nasir,” he raps. Alfredo was nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys this year, but lost to Nas’ King’s Disease.
The freestyle arrives ahead of Gibbs’ new album SSS. He has been in the studio with producers including Pharrell, Hit-Boy, and Mike WiLL Made-It. “It’s another album of the year,” he told Mixmag. “It’s gonna be the best produced album that I ever made.”
Gibbs is not the only one who is a fan of Drake’s “Champagne Poetry.” Lupe Fiasco also released his own freestyle to the opening track off CLB called “Diet Soda Poetry.”
