Dr. Fauci is continuing to advocate for vaccinations against COVID-19. Just a day after the Pfizer vaccine has received full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Fauci stated COVID-19 could be controlled in 2022 if citizens received vaccinations.
Dr. Fauci appeared on CNN with Anderson Cooper and revealed the power of vaccinations.
“If we can get through this winter and get, really, the overwhelming majority of the 90 million people who have not been vaccinated, vaccinated, I hope we can start to get some good control in the spring of 2022,” he said.
With FDA approval, the vaccine will be marketed as Comirnaty in the prevention of COVID-19 for individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine will continue to be used under emergency use authorization including individuals ages 12 to 15 years of age.
“The FDA’s approval of this vaccine is a milestone as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. While this and other vaccines have met the FDA’s rigorous, scientific standards for emergency use authorization, as the first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, the public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D. “While millions of people have already safely received COVID-19 vaccines, we recognize that for some, the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instill additional confidence to get vaccinated. Today’s milestone puts us one step closer to altering the course of this pandemic in the U.S.”
