Latin Pop artist, Leslie Grace, Meek Mill and producer, Boi-1da dropped a new single last week via Bacardi.
The new track, “CONGA” is the first-ever remake of the very popular original from the 80s by Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine with Estefan giving her official blessing. The song clashes traditional conga rhythms with a new hip-hop flair, making it impossible not to dance to.
Latin Grammy nominee Leslie Grace leads the single. As a Latina artist, having been singing since she was 16, she’s shared that remaking such a classic has been an honor for her.
“Bacardi presented this amazing plan, where they wanted me to recreate ‘Conga,’” Grace said, speaking with Billboard. “I couldn’t believe it was possible but they assured me that both Gloria and Emilio [Estefan] were on board. They wanted to entrust me with this project and I couldn’t pass on the opportunity.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Meek Mill flow with a Latin artist. Most notably, Meek’s song “Uptown II” featuring Farruko gives similar vibes–a fire twist on familiar rhythms. The song was highlighted on the soundtrack to the Bad Boys for Life three-quel.
Now, thanks to Boi-1da and Bacardi, we get the best of both worlds on another track.
“I went into the studio pre-Covid with Boi-1da. We immediately hit it off. I had written the first verse and the pre onto a loop he had sent me,” she notes. “Everything else was basically done remotely. Meek Mill jumped on the track later on after listening to the structure we built.”
The new cut comes in tandem with a #CongaFeatYou campaign from Bacardi, giving fans a chance to submit videos of themselves doing what the beat told them for an opportunity to be in the video. Lots of fun and talented contestants were chosen to be in the video.
Check it out for yourself.
